I found dp2 somewhat by accident. I was downloading MP3s off eMule, when I came across some ogg files. Having no idea what they were, I found the Orbis homepage and thus some players which played them. Listening to a song with dp2, I immediately realized that the sound was much much better. Even with my crappy multimedia speakers and my not so audiophile ears I could hear the difference.

My question is the following: is there an equivalent for video files. Meaning: given the same hardware setup that I have, will different video players play as differently as WMP and dp2? Especially for the sound. I've been watching some old star trek episodes. My girlfriend, who is french, has a very hard time with the clarity of the voices which makes it hard for her to understand. I understand, but I must admit that you need to turn the volume up inordinately loud for the voices to be clear.

Any advice would be helpfull.

Mark

Nice words.

WMP is very much tailored to the computer novice.. However, many people fail to see just how much Microsoft get right!.
did I really say that ?
but, to make WMP as novice friendly as possible the application seems to suffer in some important areas.

Video. ... I am sure you can find some more responsive and higher quality video apps out there...

As a novice application WMP is a good piece of work. Most people move away from it and find more specialized software for specific tasks though.

Right now I use Winamp5 for video playback. A while ago I used AShampoo Player, but I think Winamp5 is better. But I am not doing so much in video watching so maybe there are even better aps out there?????

The aforementioned Zoomplayer is nice, I prefer "Mediaplayer Classic". Other than that you may increase the video quality with a better codec (depending on what type of video files you have). I'm using "ffdshow" all the time, it has a lot of options to tweak that affect the quality. You'll find both programs easily when you google for their names + "download" or something.
