Hi.
It was about 2 year ago that I built my last computer. at the time I had a good idea of what hardware was available.
2 years later and I am lost again.
I am considering building a in car computer to run among other things, dp2.
I dont want to get involved with power inverters or tapping/reworking existing power suppply's.
So, do any off the shelf 12v mobo's exist? |

Are you trying to build the system into the car, or just having something sitting on the passenger seat of the car?
Easiest thing would be to get a notebook with a car power adapter. _________________ Jabber Status: |

The notebook option is too simple and has been suggested on other 'car' forums. I dont like the idea of a portable device such as a notebook in the glove compartment, it seems too easy. ... but also ideal I have to admit.
No, ....what I would like to build is a in car computer that auto-boots after the engine starts., I am not sure exactly what I would like it to do once up and running other than dp2. Maybe maps or reports from sensors etc. I dont know yet. but I want it to be part of the car.
Priority 01 would be a stable computer OS that does not require a power inverter.
So, that means a mobo built for 12v dc I guess.
Many people seem to have been experimenting with the idea but the solutions are as different as they are many. .. I find the power supply to be the biggest question to date. Possibly condensation or any extreem conditions.
If the project goes ahead you can expect some pictures .. be that this year or the next. |
